Doctorate of Audiology Externship
In this role, you will provide diagnostic evaluation of hearing, prevention, habilitation, and rehabilitation services for auditory and balance problems. You will conduct research related to hearing and balance disorders and will routinely physically and otoscopically examine the outer structures of the ear. You will be responsible for fitting, programing, and dispensing hearing aids; participating in cochlear implant assessments; and conducting electrophysiologic evaluations of the vestibular and auditory mechanisms. Other duties include performing electroacoustic measures of the peripheral and central auditory systems and counseling individuals with auditory disorders, their families and other service providers regarding the etiology of the disorder and its management. In addition, you will provide reports and coordinate audiological results with other diagnostic data such as educational, medical, social, and behavioral information.
This position is limited to those who are completing their fourth year externship before licensure in audiology. Their practicum is to be under the direct supervision of a licensed audiologist.
A bachelor’s degree
Completion of three years in a doctoral level audiology program or two years in an accelerated doctoral level audiology program
A Required Professional Experience – Audiology (RPE-A) license from the State of California by date of hire
