The William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital located in Madison, WI, Audiology department is looking for two unpaid 4th year Audiology Externs to start June of 2018. The 4th year’s focus will be on diagnostic hearing evaluations, hearing aid evaluations, hearing aid and assistive listening device fittings, teleaudiology, hearing aid follow up appointments as well as assisting with the hearing aid walk-in clinic. The externs would be responsible for returning patient phone calls, cleaning/stocking the clinic and performing biologic checks on the equipment, hearing aid trouble shooting, and mentoring 2nd and 3rd year students. The externs will be involved with some group hearing aid follow up appointments, ABRs, central testing, OAEs, CI evaluations and programming, and VNGs. The externs will also observe other specialty clinics such as low vision, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology including voice clinic, swallow studies, and cognitive assessments; polytrauma clinic, ENT surgery, etc.
Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:
otoscopy, diagnostic hearing evaluations, immittance, hearing aid troubleshooting, real ear measures, hearing aid fittings, hearing aid programming
Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
teleaudiology, ABRs, VNGs, CI evaluations and programming
