Iowa Ear Center offers one 12-month full time 4th year Au.D. externship position. The student accepted to this externship position can expect in-depth experiences in diagnostic audiology for pediatrics through adults, adult and pediatric amplification and other devices such as baha, evoked potentials, vestibular evaluation and treatment, cochlear implant evaluation and mapping, as well as universal newborn hearing screening.
It is preferred the student possesses a master’s degree from an accredited institution in order to obtain a temporary audiology license for the state of Iowa.
Student will be expected to have health and liability insurance through their university and will receive no medical, dental or liability benefits from Iowa Ear Center. Student must purchase a professional liability insurance policy to cover their activities in connection to the externship in the minimum amount of $1,000,000 per occurrence with an annual aggregate of $3,000,000.
Student will work an equivalent of a full-time work week for the facility. 36-40 hours per week must be worked or PTO must be claimed.
Student will adhere to Iowa Ear Center's HIPAA/OSHA requirements and patient confidentiality.
Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:
-It is preferred the student possesses a master's degree from an accredited institution in order to obtain a temporary audiology license for the state of Iowa.
Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
-Student will perform audiograms, VNG, ABR, and evaluations, fittings and programming for hearing aids, bahas and cochlear implants. -Students will treat both adult and pediatric patients.

Yes Schedule allowing, students will be able to participate in any training - in office or out - in which the Iowa Ear Center audiologists participate.
