Alaska Hearing & Tinnitus Center is seeking a passionate 4th year audiology extern. We are private practice located in Anchorage, AK. We also service remote area of Alaska, so an adventuresome personality is welcomed. We offer hearing and tinnitus services for patients of all ages.
We offer a wide variety of experiences for a motivated extern that is eager and willing to learn!
Required coursework and clinical clock hours in accordance with university guidelines.
Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:
Comprehensive audiological evaluation skills including air and bone conduction, masking, speech audiometry, tympanometry and acoustic reflexes, and OAEs. Accurate interpretation of the audiogram and results. Willingness to learn.
Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
Hearing aid programming Tinnitus evaluation and management Pediatric assessment Aural rehabilitation
Primary Practice Setting:

Does the externship site provide orientation to relevant clinical policies and procedures?

Does the externship site provide orientation to quality assessment, quality assurance and quality improvement?
Number of Audiologists at the site:
2 FTE Au.D. 1 FTE professional support staff (technicians/audiometric assistants) 1 FTE Clerical Support Staff
Clinical opportunities that will be given to the extern:
Pediatric evaluations: infant/toddler
Pediatric evaluations: school-age
Adult hearing evaluations
Auditory processing evaluations
Intra-operative monitoring cases
Hearing aids dispensed
Hearing aid selection/fitting
Audiologic rehabilitation (group or individualized)
Cochlear implant evaluations
Cochlear implant rehabilitation
Continuing education opportunities?
Travel to satellite centers required?
No, not required, however, I would like for the extern to accompany me on the rural trips
Consortium or collaborative arrangements with other sites?
Yes ENT practice-audiology services. SLP and early intervention services
How frequently will the externship site communicate with the university during the externship?
