Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato Audiology Department has 2 externship openings for 2018-2019. We are a regional health system with a full range of services located in Mankato MN. Our services include diagnostic hearing evaluation (birth to geriatric), newborn hearing screenings, ABR, Hearing Devices (pediatric and adults), Baha, Cochlear Implants, and full Balance Evaluations (including VNG, rotary chair, posturography, vemps, etc).
Our practice is looking for an extern with strong diagnostic skills, excellent interpersonal communication, and a desire to learn.

Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:

Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
Externs will have the opportunity to work with all age groups and will develop skills testing of all ages, including difficult to test populations, in the fitting of hearing devices, ABR, balance evaluations, newborn hearing screenings and cochlear implants. Externs will be required to demonstrate critical thinking in the clinic environment.

Yes We are able to connect externs with possible research opportunities at our Rochester location if they are motivated and current research is on-going.
Continuing education opportunities?
Yes Students receive 5 days to attend continuing education opportunities (state conference and national conference). They are encouraged to participate in all local opportunities along with staff Audiologists.
Travel to satellite centers required?
Yes locations include: Waseca MN, Springfield MN, New Prague MN, and Owatonna MN. Travel can often be coordinated with supervising audiologist to reduce impact of travel on Extern.
Consortium or collaborative arrangements with other sites?
How frequently will the externship site communicate with the university during the externship?

Clinical supervisors will be contacted as needed to discuss student concerns. Clear guidelines for assessment, deadlines, and expectations of student performance are expected/required.
Letters of Recommendation Resume Transcript Letter of request/intent Three letters of recommendation are required. Once application is reviewed an on-site interview will be offered. On-site interview will be required before any offer is extended.
