Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine offers an exciting, well-rounded year-long fourth year Au.D. externship for students seeking experience in a fast-paced, diverse environment. This externship consists of 3 four-month rotations through distinct clinical sites (Montefiore Medical Arts Pavilion, Montefiore Hutchinson Campus, and Albert Einstein College of Medicine Children's Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center (CERC)). The extern will participate as a long-term trainee in the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) program during his/her rotation through CERC, gaining valuable interdisciplinary experience through lectures, team meetings, and a research project.
During the year, the extern will gain experience evaluating both adults and children for hearing disorders using behavioral and electrophysiologic methods (including sedated and non-sedated auditory brainstem response (ABR) testing), fitting and verification of pediatric hearing aids, fitting and management of bone conduction devices, cochlear implant evaluations and mapping, and vestibular evaluations. Students will work with ENT physicians, audiologists, and a variety of other professionals in a collaborative environment.

Applicants should be enrolled in a doctoral audiology program and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, motivation, and a solid clinical foundation.
Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:
-Otoscopy -Tympanometry -Conventional audiologic battery -Some experience with pediatric testing -Basic hearing aid programming and troubleshooting
Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
-Familiarity with cochlear implant evaluation, mapping, and neural response telemetry -Proficiency with VRA and CPA -Experience testing children with disabilities -Proficiency with vestibular testing -Proficiency with sedated and non-sedated ABR testing
