|Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship: ||The following are skills the extern will be expected to demonstrate during their clinical externship. |
1)Independently perform diagnostic hearing evaluations including: otoscopy, tympanometry, acoustic reflexes, BOA, VRA, and CPA as well as speech testing using standard and pediatric testing methods.
2)Independently perform OAE evaluations (Distortion Product and Transient Evoked) and ABR evaluations (sedated and unsedated).
3)Independently complete pediatric hearing aid evaluations and fittings with conventional and bone conduction hearing aids.
4)Independently perform listening checks and troubleshooting of hearing aids, assistive listening devices and FM systems.
5)Identify appropriate pediatric candidates for cochlear implantation.
6)Gain competency in cochlear implant evaluations, initial stimulations, mapping and rehabilitation of children with implants.
7)Gain competency in patient, family, and caregiver education and counseling.
8)Gain competency in the accompanying written documentation and verbal communication needed to administer care.
9)Understand and inform parents in an unbiased manner regarding educational and communication options in the community.
10)All of the position's duties are performed within Children's Hospitals and Clinics Standards of Behavior.
