St. Jude Children's Research Hospital hosts a unique externship opportunity focusing on diagnostic audiology in the form of ototoxic monitoring and rehabilitation through amplification. SJCRH Audiology Clinic fosters clinical skills through diagnostic assessments on children and adults with significant exposure to evoked potential testing via ABR/ASSR/Chirp evaluations. An extern also will be offered ample opportunity to sharpen skills of hearing aid verification and management.
An extern should display a significant desire to work with a pediatric population. A previous pediatric rotation is required. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish a quick rapport are required. Excellent clinical knowledge of diagnostic audiology and hearing aid management is needed, as is confident clinical decision making skills. An extern should come with a willingness to learn and a desire to gain independence in case management.
Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:
A confident knowledge of behavioral audiometry with adults and pediatrics, evoked potential testing, and hearing aid management is desired.

Yes Externs are allowed to attend one conference during their externship year. Conference fees and travel fees are the responsibility of the extern.
