With over 30 years of experience providing hearing help to those with hearing loss, Massa & Associates- Center for Hearing and Balance, is committed to helping people function at their best through better hearing. The goal of this externship is to train the clinician to be a well-rounded audiologist and instill skills needed in both a private practice audiology setting, as well as skills needed in an ENT practice style setting. Skills to be learned are essentially audiological full scope of practice with vestibular/neurophysiology testing (ABR, VNG, ECochG), audiometry with patients of all ages, including pediatrics (OAE and VRA), and hearing device assessment, fitting, and long term care of the hearing device user. In addition, we work with multiple manufacturers of hearing devices. The clinician will make recommendations to the patient and refer for further treatment with ENT or other providers as needed.
Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:
•Experience with diagnostic audiology with masking of air and bone conduction. •Basic knowledge of ABR, VNG, & ECOG. •Familiarity with hearing aid technology and basic hearing aid management. •Ability to interact appropriately with patients, physicians & supervisors.
Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
•Mastery of diagnostic audiology (pediatric and adult) with appropriate masking •Competency in vestibular evaluations (ABR, VNG, & ECOG) •Appropriate selection, dispensing, and troubleshooting of hearing aid technology •Professional interactions with patients, physicians, & supervisors •Competency in chart documentation using electronic medical records
