We are seeking a 4th year extern to complete a 12 month full time pediatric externship from May 2019 - May 2020. The candidate will be highly motivated, flexible, a strong team player, and have the desire for a career in pediatric audiology. We provide a full range of pediatric services including unsedated diagnostic ABRs for patients of all ages, cochlear implant mapping, hearing aid and BAHA fittings, OAEs and comprehensive audiological evaluations. Externs are immersed in all aspects of testing. Prospective candidates should have the ability to work in a fast paced environment. Students who are considering a career in pediatric audiology will find ENT for Children a challenging environment that will allow them to develop speed and accuracy as well as confidence in testing all children. Externs will be supervised by a team of experienced pediatric audiologists.
Completed their 3rd year of AuD program
Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:
1. Completed their university coursework related to pediatrics 2. Preferred, but not a requirement, at least one or more pediatric practicum placements 3. Preferred, but not a requirement, experience with ABRs
Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
1)Independently perform diagnostic hearing evaluations including: otoscopy, tympanometry, acoustic reflexes, BOA, VRA, and CPA as well as speech testing using standard and pediatric testing methods. 2)Independently perform OAE evaluations (Distortion Product and Transient Evoked) and ABR evaluations (unsedated). 3)Independently complete pediatric hearing aid evaluations and fittings with conventional and bone conduction hearing aids. 4)Independently perform listening checks and troubleshooting of hearing aids. 5)Identify appropriate pediatric candidates for cochlear implantation. 6)Gain competency in cochlear implant evaluations, initial stimulations, mapping and rehabilitation of children with implants. 7)Gain competency in patient, family, and caregiver education and counseling. 8)Gain competency in the accompanying written documentation and verbal communication needed to administer care. 9)Understand and inform parents in an unbiased manner regarding educational and communication options in the community.

We are a private practice pediatric ENT clinic. We have two office locations. One is in Coppell, Texas and the other is in Southlake, Texas. There are three doctors that serve both clinics. There are also three Audiologists between the two offices.
