The Audiology Department at Eastern Carolina ENT- Head and Neck Surgery is seeking 2 Fourth Year (Final Year) AuD students for a one year externship position.
Our practice offers diagnostic testing of all ages as well as amplification services of adults. We are a busy 7 physician practice whose audiology department consists of 2-3 Audiologists, 2 students, and 2 OTO-Techs. Our Audiology department seeks to provide the most up to date, evidenced based, best practice in our patient care. We are a busy and fast-paced office, searching for a student with excellent interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, a team-player, a willingness to learn, a strong work ethic, and great communication skills.
This is a one year paid position (including paid time off, medical and dental options) and will begin in either May or June of 2019. There are 2 positions available and students will rotate with one another through clinic and amplification blocks.

Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:
• Complete comprehensive audiometry for adults, adolescents, and older children. • Familiarity with audiologic evaluations of infants and young children. • Otoscopy, tympanometry, acoustic reflex testing and interpretation • Otoacoustic emission testing and interpretation • Earmold Impressions • Proficient in hearing aid verification procedures including real ear measurements. •Some experience with basic hearing aid programming and troubleshooting.
Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
• Improve in speed and accuracy of comprehensive evaluations of all ranges. • Ability to adjust testing technique for difficult to test patients or patients with developmental disabilities. • Proficiency and confidence in hearing aid selection, fitting, verification, and counseling. • Competency in VNG testing. • Ability to program and fit BAHA implantable devices and determine candidacy. • Interdisciplinary teamwork • Appropriate and thorough counseling patients and caregivers on hearing loss and intervention
