Full Time - Externship
University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital/Lions Children's Hearing & ENT Clinic is seeking a Doctor of Audiology (AuD) student for a full time (12 month), pediatric-focused externship. To create a well rounded 4th year experience, a small portion (approximately 1/5 of the year) will include time spent at the University of Minnesota Health Audiology Clinic where adult services are provided under direct supervision of their 7 audiologists.
A full range of pediatric services are provided at University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital/Lions Children's Hearing & ENT Clinic including: pediatric hearing assessment birth to 21 years of age, electrophysiology, fitting and follow of hearing aids, bone conduction devices and cochlear implants.
Additionally, a wide array of services are provided at University of Minnesota Health Audiology Clinic including: hearing assessment, electrophysiology, complete vestibular testing, fitting and follow up hearing aids, osseointegrated devices and cochlear implants.
Interested individuals should be flexible, highly motivated, self-directed and possess a strong interest in working with children. The chosen individual will learn under direct supervision of our team of 5 pediatric audiologists in a fast-paced environment.

Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:
*One or more pediatric clinical placements. *Mastery in otoscopy, tympanometry, reflex testing, air and bone conduction. *Experience with VRA and CPA as primary and secondary tester. *Experience with hearing aid selection, fitting and verification using real-ear measurements. *Experience with electrophysiologic assessment. *Strong writing skills.
Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
*Independence in working with children and their families from initial testing to recommendations and follow through with other providers/school team. *Independence in VRA, CPA, OAE and ABR testing. *Independence in hearing aid troubleshooting, selection, fitting and verification. *Competence in cochlear implant candidacy and programming. *Competence in all services provided at our clinic. *Confidences in applying critical thinking to outcome-based management of patients.

Continuing education opportunities?
Yes *Fairview hosts a nationally recognized audiology expert once a year for a full day at no charge. *Monthly cochlear implant and hearing aid trainings/meetings throughout the year.
Travel to satellite centers required?
Yes Would only be during the time spent in adult clinic and it is only 1 mile between clinics.
Consortium or collaborative arrangements with other sites?
Yes Externship incudes rotation at the adult clinic for 1/5 of the year.
How frequently will the externship site communicate with the university during the externship?
Communication or other support do expected or required from the university during the externship:
A signed affiliation agreement with the extern's University MUST be negotiated prior the the start of the externship.

Steps for the student/university to follow in the application process:

In-person interviews will be offered on 10/22/2018. 3)If selected for in-person interview, they will occur on 11/02/2018 and 11/05/2018. It is encouraged that you try to be available in-person, or at minimum through some other type of video communication. 4)Expect to be available for about 2 hours on the day of the in-person interview to tour the clinic and observe patient care for a while.
