Hearing Evaluation Services (HES) is one of the largest free standing non-profit audiology practices in the country. We are currently seeking candidates for 3 fourth year extern/resident positions for the 2019-2020 cycle with interviews typically beginning in October. Hearing Evaluation Services employs 12 Doctors of Audiology and services patients in four of our own dispensing offices, three ENT offices, and at the largest outpatient neurological center in the US. We offer a rigorous and diverse placement for fourth year candidates in our very busy practice. Once trained and onboarded, Residents have their own patient caseloads (always with on-site supervision) and learn to build rapport and relationships with patients, families, colleagues, and other allied health professionals.
We provide complete audiometric evaluations for adults (all locations) as well as for newborns and children at our Williamsville office. We provide hearing aid evaluations, dispensing, and troubleshooting, Industrial testing (seasonal), Auditory Processing Evaluations, a research-backed Tinnitus Program, and comprehensive vestibular evaluations (including VNG, posturography, and rotary chair testing).
HES offers a dynamic and team-based learning experience. Externs/Residents will have the opportunity to work with several different Doctors of Audiology throughout their 12-month placement giving them exposure to a variety of clinical practice experiences.
An interest in diagnostic vestibular testing is required and adequate training and supervision will always be provided by one of our Doctors of Audiology. Successful residents will have already demonstrated the ability to translate their classroom learning into hands on patient care with the ability to build patient rapport. A strong work ethic and professional accountability are a must.
Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:
- audiometric evaluations- instruction for hearing aid fitting- hearing aid programming and troubleshooting- hearing aid care- some vestibular testing experience preferred

Yes Participation in research depends on the year and most often is in partnership with the vestibular program at Dent Neurologic Institute. Opportunities can be evaluated on a case by case basis.
