Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship: | •Basic knowledge and considerable experience complete audiologic test battery •Basic knowledge and considerable experience with pediatric audiology including VRA and CPA •Basic knowledge of speech-in-noise testing •Basic knowledge and considerable experience with speech audiometry testing to include masking when appropriate •Basic knowledge and some experience testing children with special needs •Basic knowledge and considerable experience with hearing aids, hearing aid fittings using Noah and manufacturer software •Basic knowledge with and considerable experience with otoacoustic emissions •Basic knowlege of auditory brainstem response testing procedures and other evoked potentials •Basic knowledge of central auditory processing disorders •Basic knowledge of FM systems and school based audiology |
Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship: | •Ability to perform comprehensive diagnostic audiologic evaluations for both pediatric and adult populations •Ability to perform newborn hearing assessments (OAE and ABR) •Ability to perform speech in noise assessment •Ability to perform electrophysiologic tests including neurodiagnostic ABR and MLR •Ability to perform hearing aid evaluations, fittings, and appropriate follow-up care. •Perform in-house hearing aid repairs as appropriate •Perform and interpret central auditory processing testing •Implement and facilitate adult AR group •Implement auditory training for CAPD •Make decisions regarding academic recommendations as it pertains to technology and other accommodations for children with hearing disorders. •Communicate and work with a wide variety of other professionals |
