Advance your clinical skills and learn the ins and outs of private practice audiology with The Hearing Center of Lake Charles! We are a well-established practice in Louisiana where we see and treat patients of all ages in our two office locations (Lake Charles and DeRidder).

The student will be expected to further develop their hearing aid care, patient counseling, and dispensing skills, engage in community outreach activities, perform tinnitus assessments and rehabilitation, and see cochlear implant patients – evaluations, mapping, activation and programming!

Yes After a few months will travel 1x every other week to satellite office in DeRidder - about an hour away.
Local students preferred:
Does the externship site provide orientation to relevant clinical policies and procedures?
Does the externship site provide instructions about patient's rights and providing patient education?
Does the externship site provide orientation to quality assessment, quality assurance and quality improvement?
Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:
•Competent and proficient in testing, counseling and hearing aid fitting •Familiar with various technologies – able to make appropriate recommendations •Demonstrated ability to manage patients independently •Excellent listening skills •Experience with pediatrics and adults •Good report writing skills •Basic understanding/some exposure to cochlear implants •Basic understanding/some exposure to tinnitus
Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
•Advancement in testing, counseling and fitting skills •Advancement in cochlear implants (evaluation, rehabilitation) •Advancement in tinnitus evaluation and •Manage patient assessment and evaluation •Strengthen patient counseling skills •Strengthen report writing skills

Pediatric evaluations: infant/toddler
Pediatric evaluations: school-age
Adult hearing evaluations
Auditory processing evaluations
Evoked potential assessments
Intra-operative monitoring cases
Hearing aids dispensed
Hearing aid selection/fitting
Audiologic rehabilitation (group or individualized)
Cochlear implant evaluations
Cochlear implant rehabilitation
Consortium or collaborative arrangements with other sites?
How frequently will the externship site communicate with the university during the externship?
