University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital/Lions Children’s Heairng & ENT Clinic is seeking a Doctor of Audiology (AuD) student for a full time (12 month), pediatric-focused externship. Our goal is to prepare you to feel confident and competent to begin a career in pediatric audiology.
Lions Children's Hearing & ENT Clinic has 5 audiologists and provides a full range of services including: diagnostic hearing evaluations, electrophysiology, hearing aids, bone conduction devices and cochlear implants.
Additionally, we work closely with the MHealth Audiology Clinic that provides audiology services for adults. We are excited to again have the unique opportunity to include a small portion (approximately 2 months) of this externship at their outpatient clinic. We believe this gives you experience in adjusting the skills you have already learned toward working with the adult population.
The MHealth Audiology Clinic has 8 audiologists and provide a full range of services including: diagnostic hearing evaluations, vestibular assessment, electrophysiology, cochlear implants, hearing aids and osseointegrated devices
Interested individuals should be flexible, highly motivated, self-directed and possess a strong interest in working with children.
Start date- June 1, 2020. End date- May 28, 2021.
One or more pediatric clinical placements.
Mastery in otoscopy, tympanometry, reflex testing, air and bone conduction.
Experience with VRA and CPA as primary and secondary tester.
Experience with hearing aid selection, fitting and verification using real-ear measurements.
Experience with electrophysiologic assessment.
Strong writing skills

Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:

Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
•Independence in working with children and their families from initial testing to recommendations and follow through with other providers/school team. •Independence in VRA, CPA, OAE and ABR testing and interpretation. •Independence in hearing aid troubleshooting, selection, fitting and verification •Competence in cochlear implant candidacy and programming. •Competence in all services provided at our clinic. •Confidence in applying critical thinking to outcome-based management of patients.

1-Please send letter of intent, resume, 3 letters of recommendation and a copy of unofficial transcript to email@example.com 2-Initial phone interviews will occur for all applicants up to Sept 16, 2019. 3-In-person interviews are strongly encouraged and will be offered by Sept 17, 2019. 4- If selected for an in-person interview, these will occur on Sept 24, 2019 from 1-4:30pm and Sept 27, 2019 from 8-12. Expect to be available for up to 2 more hours the day of the interview to observe patient care.
