Sound Health Services, P.C. (SHS) is the largest, privately owned, ENT doctor, Audiology, Speech Pathology and Allergy practice with 15 offices in the St. Louis Metro area. Midwest Dizziness and Balance Institute, LLC (MDBI) is only 1 of 3 sites in the country that is a fully diagnostic and treatment center for patients with vestibular dysfunction. BOTH sites are included in the externship. The students will rotate between offices.
SHS features state-of-the-art care for ear, nose, and throat problems, hearing loss, vestibular problems, environmental allergies, sinus, and head and neck surgery. There are 27 physicians, 6 SLP's, and 21 Audiologists. Our Audiology Division includes Masters (4) or Doctoral Level Audiologists (17) and we offer a variety of audiological services, including but not limited to: Diagnostic Audiology - mostly adults, some pediatrics, OAE/Tymps/Reflexes, Hearing Aid Evaluations and Fittings, Cochlear Implant and Implantable Devices Team (to be determined if this is included in the externship)
MDBI is ONLY 1 of 3 sites in the country with complete diagnostic AND rehabilitation for patients with vestibular disorders. We administer testing to assess the ENTIRE vestibular system with VNG, ABR, VEMP, vHIT, Rotary Chair, Platform, Epley Chair, and Electrocochleography. What sets us apart is we all do all vestibular rehabilitation in our clinic using Advanced Vestibular TreatmentTM methods.

Our site expects the student to have mastered audiologic evaluations of adults as well as have some experience with hearing aid fitting, repair and adjustments. The candidate must have a strong interest in the vestibular system and previous vestibular rotation experience is a plus.
During your externship, it is expected that you will become proficient in Audiologic evaluations, hearing aid fittings, repairs and adjustments, and have a strong knowledge base for vestibular and neuro-diagnostic audiology testing.

Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:
Our site expects the student to have mastered audiologic evaluations of adults as well as have some experience with hearing aid fitting, repair and adjustments. Proficient knowledge of the vestibular system with at least 1 rotation performing vestibular work throughout your schooling is very beneficial. Must have a strong interest in vestibular.
