I am offering a unpaid 4th Year Externship position in my practice beginning summer 2020 at my private practice in Concord Township, Ohio (about 40 minutes east of Cleveland). My practice is relatively new (opening October 2018) .This externship would provide experience in all aspects of private practice including what it takes to make a start-from-scratch practice work!
My practice, Sounds of Life Hearing Center, serves patients of all ages - infants through geriatrics. I provide exemplary diagnostic testing (audiometry, immittance, DPOAEs, CAPD) and best-practice hearing aid fittings with a strong emphasis on real-ear measures ensuring audibility and patient counseling. I include trialing in my consultative process. I utilize an unbundled practice model. I employ an evidence-based, best practice, patient- and family-centered model of care.
I am passionate about high-quality precepting and that the 4th year is to be used as an educational experience. My externs are not expected to practice independently or generate their own revenue. They are immersed in the daily needs of the practice including but not limited to: community, social media, and physician marketing; billing, coding, and insurance; program growth & development; and budgeting and accounting. I do take 3rd year placements from local universities for the spring & summer semesters; however, at this time I focus fully during the fall on my 4th Year Extern.
This is an unpaid externship due to budget limitations. Should it be financially feasible to offer a stipend, it is possible that this may be implemented as I would like to be able to do so; however, this is not guaranteed.
This would not be an appropriate placement if you hope to gain experience in vestibular evaluations, advanced tinnitus care, or cochlear implants (though I am currently investigating the addition of cochlear implants into my clinical services).
If you are interested or know someone who might be, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org . Thanks!
*I do currently hold my CCC's but may discontinue as the 2020 requirements are changing. If you or your university require that preceptors hold their CCC-A, please let me know. I may not renew this year.
