Jacksonville Hearing and Balance Institute (JHBI) is currently accepting applications for a 2021-2022 Audiology Externship. JHBI is a prominent Neurotology practice located minutes from the beaches of northeast Florida. Our practice specializes in advanced surgical and rehabilitative options for patients with hearing and balance disorders. We primarily serve the adult population. In our main office, we see patients for diagnostic evaluation, electrophysiologic assessment, cochlear implant and BAHA services, tinnitus evaluation and comprehensive vestibular evaluation including posturography, rotary chair and VNG testing. Comprehensive hearing aid services are offered through our adjacent Hearing Center.

Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:
-Take a complete case history -Strong report writing skills -Competently perform all diagnostic evaluations -Critically think about each case presented -Strong knowledge in hearing aids, cochlear implants and bone anchored devices -Good counseling skills for patients of all ages -Working knowledge on vestibular assessment and interpretation.
Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
-Proficient in report writing and electronic medical record keeping -Independently perform all diagnostic evaluations -Critical thinking about each case presented -Proficient in counseling, selection, and fitting of hearing aids, cochlear implants and bone anchored devices -Independently perform a full vestibular evaluation

Pediatric evaluations: infant/toddler
Pediatric evaluations: school-age
Adult hearing evaluations
Auditory processing evaluations
Evoked potential assessments
Intra-operative monitoring cases
Hearing aids dispensed
Hearing aid selection/fitting
Audiologic rehabilitation (group or individualized)
Cochlear implant evaluations
Cochlear implant rehabilitation
Consortium or collaborative arrangements with other sites?
How frequently will the externship site communicate with the university during the externship?
Communication or other support do expected or required from the university during the externship:
Periodic student evaluations as needed by university.
