The William S Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital located in Madison, WI, Audiology department is looking for two unpaid 4th year Audiology Externs to start May/June of 2021. The 4th year’s focus will be on diagnostic hearing evaluations, hearing aid assessments, hearing aid and assistive listening device fittings, hearing aid follow-up appointments, Cochlear Implant evaluations and programming, as well as assisting with hearing aid drop-offs and repairs. The 4th year Externs would be responsible for returning patient phone calls, cleaning/stocking the clinic and performing biologic checks on the equipment, hearing aid trouble shooting, and mentoring 2nd and 3rd year students. The externs will also be involved with Telehealth appointments, ABRs, and OAEs. In addition, the extern will have some exposure to CAPD testing and VNGs and will have the opportunity to observe an ear surgery performed by ENT. The externs will observe other specialty clinics such as low vision, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology including voice clinic, swallow studies, and cognitive assessments; polytrauma clinic, etc.

An affiliation agreement would need to be completed between the Madison VA and the trainee's university as well as a Program Letter Of Agreement between the Audiology department and the university.
