Central Texas Veterans Healthcare System (CTVHCS) offers a 4th year Au.D. externship position at the main Temple Hospital. Our extern works a five day schedule with a range of clinical experiences. Clinical experiences include, but are not limited to: hearing evaluations, cerumen management, OAEs, hearing aid selection, hearing aid fittings with real ear measures, aural rehabilitation, electrophysiology (ABR, ASSR), vestibular examinations (including posturography, VHIT, VNG, and repositioning maneuvers), bone anchored hearing aid and cochlear implant workups and mapping, and Tinnitus Management program exposure. We have a diverse team of 6 Audiologists and 4 health technicians, with years of experience in the field.

Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:
Diagnostic hearing exams Basic hearing aid fittings with real ear measures Basic hearing aid selection Basic hearing aid troubleshooting Report writing skills Knowledge of electrophysiologic measurements (experience preferred, but not necessary) Knowledge of vestibular examinations (experience preferred, but not necessary)
Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
-Improve clinical proficiency and time management -ability to synthesize results and make appropriate independent clinic decisions -increase confidence as an independent clinician
