It’s the second largest city in the state and home to both the University of South Carolina and Fort Jackson, the U.S. Army’s largest basic training installation. Plenty of cultural activities await in the historic Congaree Vista, which has recently undergone a major redevelopment effort. You’ll find a mix of art galleries, unique shops, theaters, museums, high-end condos, and restaurants featuring classic Southern cuisine and more. Don’t miss Busted Plug, the world’s largest fire hydrant! If you are seeking the comfort of a smaller town, consider the short drive to nearby Lexington. A fast-growing community that appeals to families and young urban professionals alike. Outdoor enthusiasts will find recreational opportunities such as boating, swimming, and fishing at Lake Murray, which comprises some 50,000 acres and boasts more than 700 miles of shoreline. There are plenty of non-water activities as well, including hiking, visiting the bustling farmer’s market, catching a Lexington County Blowfish baseball game, and stepping back in time at the historical Lexington County Museum. Whether you’re seeking a slower pace of life or a vibrant downtown scene, one of these cities is sure to be right up your alley.
