St. Jude Children's Research Hospital hosts a unique externship opportunity focusing on diagnostic audiology in the form of ototoxic monitoring and rehabilitation through amplification. SJCRH Audiology Clinic fosters clinical skills through diagnostic assessments on children (70% of population) and adults (30% of population) with significant exposure to evoked potential testing via ABR/ASSR evaluations. An extern also will be offered ample opportunity to sharpen skills of hearing aid verification and management for our pediatric population.
An extern should display a significant desire to work with a pediatric population. A previous pediatric rotation is required. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish a quick rapport are required. Excellent clinical knowledge of diagnostic audiology and hearing aid management is needed, as is confident clinical decision making skills. An extern should come with a willingness to learn and a desire to gain independence in case management.
