This is a 12-month 4th Year AuD Externship beginning in July 2022 at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon. The externship is offered through collaboration between the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Doernbecher Children's Hospital, and the Child Development and Rehabilitation Center, which are all part of OHSU. The audiology extern will participate as a long-term trainee in the Leadership in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) Program, attending weekly interdisciplinary seminars, participating in community outreach and education, and conducting and presenting clinical research.
Externs will gain clinical experience in a wide variety of audiologic services, including diagnostic evaluations of infants, children, adolescents and adults, pediatric and adult hearing technology services (hearing aids and bone anchored hearing systems), pediatric and adult cochlear implants, interdisciplinary evaluation of children with complex medical conditions and developmental disabilities, auditory brainstem response evaluations, ototoxicity monitoring, and vestibular assessment.
Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited Doctor of Audiology program. We are seeking candidates who have high professional standards, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and who are committed to providing exceptional service and care to individuals and families. Successful candidates should demonstrate the ability to work within a fast-paced environment and work closely with other clinicians.

Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:
-Basic diagnostic evaluations for adults, adolescents and older children -Some experience in diagnostic evaluations of infants and young children -Otoscopy, tympanometry, acoustic reflex measurement -OAE measurement and interpretation -Ear impressions -Some experience with hearing aid programming and verification
Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
-Electrophysiologic evaluations -Developmentally appropriate diagnostic evaluations for infants and young children and individuals with developmental disabilities -Hearing device selection, fitting and verification -Cochlear implant evaluation and counseling, device selection, mapping, verification -Interdisciplinary teamwork -Counseling individuals and families about hearing, diagnostic results and recommendations for intervention and rehabilitation.
