The Greenville VA CBOC in Greenville, South Carolina is excited to offer a funded 4th-year Audiology Externship for 2022-2023. This is a 12-month, full-time (2080 hours), funded externship with an anticipated start date of July 2022. CCC-A supervised hours will be available.
The Greenville VA CBOC is a short drive to downtown Greenville which offers a variety of both indoor & outdoor activities including: an extensive amount of culinary experiences, walking/biking trails , the Greenville Zoo, the Greenville Drive Minor League Baseball Stadium, and much more (https://www.visitgreenvillesc.com/)! We are also within a short driving distance to a multitude of outdoor adventures in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The Greenville VA CBOC is a part of the Columbia VA Health Care System. The Columbia VA Health Care System Audiology Clinic has a total staff of 11 Audiologists and 3 Health Technicians. Externs will complete the majority of their training at the Greenville VA CBOC (4 audiologists & 1 health technician), but will have opportunities to rotate through the WJB Dorn VAMC (main hospital in Columbia, SC) as well as the CBOC in Anderson, SC.
The Audiology Clinic provides clinical opportunities including: audiologic assessments, amplification, vestibular evaluations, auditory evoked potentials, tinnitus management, and tele-audiology. The externship may also allow for interdisciplinary training opportunities within the Physical Therapy Clinic, Eye Clinic, and Polytrauma Team.

Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:

Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
• Improved speed and proficiency in diagnostic testing, hearing aid assessments, and hearing aid fittings/adjustments/repairs. • Significant improvements in clinical decision making throughout the Externship Year • Competency in cerumen management, tinnitus management, auditory evoked potentials, and vestibular evaluations. • Significant progress on the American Academy of Audiology's Core Competencies throughout the Externship Year (https://www.audiology.org/careers/programs-and-externships/)

No There are no active research studies available for externs to participate in at this time; however, externs are encouraged to seek other research opportunities.
Consortium or collaborative arrangements with other sites?
Yes TBD pending COVID-19 restrictions. Currently developing collaborative arrangements with Community Care ENT/Audiology providers to allow for externs to have additional training opportunities; i.e., cochlear implant and osseo-integrated devices.
How frequently will the externship site communicate with the university during the externship?
