We have a busy Audiology clinic and see a wide variety of patients ranging in age from newborn to 100+. We currently have 14 audiologists on staff, most of whom work on the UCH campus in Aurora. We have three audiologists up in our Boulder clinic (west of Denver) two down in our Lone Tree clinic (south of Denver), two in our Cherry Creek office and two in our Highlands Ranch office (south of Denver). The majority of our patient load is adults however we do have a busy pediatric clinic including diagnostic testing, amplification, cochlear implants, newborn hearing screening and follow-up. We work closely with 4 otologists in the ENT clinic adjacent to ours.
Most externs begin their placement in June depending on their academic schedules. We can take up to three 4th year externs at a time. Our 4th year placement is designed to provide a well-rounded experience. Externs work 4/10 hour days with a full day off each week. From day one, externs rotate through a variety of specialties including adult diagnostics and amplification, pediatric diagnostics and amplification, adult and pediatric cochlear implants, and adult and pediatric vestibular testing. In the Spring, 4th year externs will have the opportunity to rotate through the campus clinic at the University of Colorado at Boulder, and gain experience with precepting 1st and 2nd year students. This is a wonderful opportunity for those externs who see themselves precepting students in the future.
On the first Thursday of the month, we have 4th Year Grand Rounds, at which externs present on a variety of patient cases they have seen in their rotations. We also offer a number of outreach programs to the community including a monthly Saturday clinic and Adult Aural Rehab classes scattered throughout the year. Externs can also participate in a Journal Club that meets monthly. There are also numerous community events including Health Fairs and Special Olympics.
While we have had externs in the past who have strong interest in one particular area, the best fit for this type of placement is an extern who wants to gain experience in a wide variety of areas. In other words, we don't specifically offer just a pediatric focus or just a cochlear implant focus, etc. 4th years will spend time in all areas. That being said, if an extern does have a particular interest, the length of their rotations can be adjusted within limits.
At this time, we do not offer compensation/stipend for the 4th year rotation.

At the UC Health Hearing & Balance Clinic we offer a well-rounded 4th year audiology externship.
The 4th year rotation is a one year commitment. Most externs begin their placement in June/early July, depending on their academic schedules. Our 4th year placement is designed to provide a well-rounded experience in all aspects of audiology including adult diagnostics and amplification, pediatric diagnostics and amplification, adult and pediatric cochlear implants and adult and pediatric vestibular evaluations. From day one, externs will be rotating through all of these specialties. In the Spring, externs will have the opportunity to rotate through Hearing and Balance Clinic at the Boulder Health Center, to gain experience with precepting 1st and 2nd year students. This is a wonderful opportunity for those externs who anticipate mentoring/precepting students in the future. We are an evidence-based practice and believe in the importance of research, continuing education, outreach, and patient education.
Unfortunately, at this time, we do not offer compensation/stipend for the 4th year rotation.
All applications must be complete and received by September 10, 2021. Once confirmed..., applicants will receive an email with a link to schedule an interview. Applicants are encouraged to come visit our clinic before/during the application process, however this is not a requirement. We hope to make final decisions for 4th year placements by October 20th, 2021. Thank you and we look forward to meeting you!
