Primary Practice Setting:
The Centre for Advanced Hearing and Balance Testing and The Munk Hearing Centre at Toronto General Hospital are among the largest and most diverse out-patient audiology and specialty vestibular units in North America. We are proud to announce a full-time 4th year externship position.
We work closely with a multidisciplinary team ensuring that each test within our evidence-based test battery probes a unique area of the vestibular system, and provide essential information about vestibular function. Based on the clinical skills of our team, as well as the breadth of tests that we offer, our testing centre is unique within Canada. We regularly complete vestibular assessments for the pediatric and adult population, as well as for patients who have sustained head injuries.
At our hearing aid dispensary, The Munk Hearing Centre, we specialize in surgical patients, single-sided deafness and medically complex patient care.
By the end of a clinical rotation at our centre, our externs have mastered adult and pediatric vestibular testing (including videonystagmography, vestibular evoke myogenic potentials, video head impulse tests, electrocochleography, auditory brain stem response tests and cortical tests) as well as hearing aid selections, fittings and troubleshooting.

-Basic hearing evaluation -Understanding of vestibular anatomy and vestibular test battery -Basic hearing aid selection and fitting
Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
- Vestibular test battery including coVEMPs, VNG, vHIT, ECochG - Electrophysiology including Corticals, ABR - Hearing aid fitting including verification and fine tuning
