Pediatric Ear, Nose & Throat of Atlanta is the largest private practice pediatric ENT group in the country. Our staff consists of 7 pediatric ENT physicians, 4 of whom are cochlear implant surgeons, 10 Advanced Practice Providers and 11 Pediatric Audiologists. We offer up to 3 full-time paid 4th year externships that start generally in mid-May. Externs are hired for a 12-month competency-based experience. The externships are solely clinical but provide exposure to children birth to 21 years of age. Externs will rotate to one of four primary locations in the North Atlanta Metroplex. Externs will have a primary preceptor at each location and participate in all areas of pediatric audiology including comprehensive ABR testing, behavioral audiological assessments and hearing aid and BAHA/Ponto evaluations and fittings. Externs will also gain experience with all three cochlear implant manufacturers. On-site continuing education opportunities are provided to 4th year externs at no cost to them.

Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:
Minimum requirements for Au.D. externship: bachelor's degree, eligibility for AuD. 4th year externship, and professional liability insurance. Previous clinical rotation in pediatrics preferred.
Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
- Comprehensive diagnostic audiometric evaluations for infant through adult population - Behavioral observation, visual reinforcement, conditioned play, and behavioral hearing evaluations - Immittance testing: tympanometry, acoustic reflex - High-frequency audiometry - Otoacoustic Emissions - Auditory brainstem response: natural sleep, threshold and neurodiagnostic - Hearing aid consultations and fittings using real ear measures - Cochlear implant evaluations, fittings, and mapping - Osseointegrated hearing device evaluations and fittings - Assistive listening devices
