The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center Audiology Program provides comprehensive audiologic and rehabilitative services. The program offers special emphasis in the areas of ototoxicity monitoring, vestibular and balance function testing and amplification options for patients with cancer. The program also offers specialty training and experience working with patients with acoustic neuromas, meningiomas, glomous jugulare tumors, Meniere's disease, and middle ear dysfunction. Clinical services are provided in conjunction with ongoing institutional research protocols.
Program Mission
Our goal is to prepare the next generation of independent audiology clinicians with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide outstanding patient care. We have developed a rigorous audiology training program in a multidisciplinary clinical and research institution.
Program Description
The Audiology Fellowship program is a 12-month, full-time position, designed to prepare fellows for a career in adult and pediatric audiology. We also provide research experience. The program includes completion of a research project during the fellowship training. At the completion of the program, the fellow will be expected to demonstrate competency in various clinical areas to provide the highest level of audiological services.
Our AuD fellowship program includes, but is not limited to:
- Comprehensive diagnostic audiologic evaluation for adults and children
- Ototoxicity monitoring
- Tinnitus counseling
- Electrophysiological Assessment
- Otoacoustic Emissions (OAEs)
- Auditory Brainstem Response Audiometry (ABR)
- Sedated ABR for pediatric ototoxic monitoring
- Neurodiagnostic ABR - Auditory Steady State Responses (ASSR)
- Vestibular Assessment
- Videonystagmography (VNG)
- Rotational Chair
- Electrocochleography (ECochG)
- Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potential (VEMP)
- Hearing aid fitting and follow-up
- Hearing aids and assistive listening devices
- Bone anchored hearing instruments (BAHA)
- Observation and participation of patient candidates for cochlear implants, bone anchored hearing instruments, and acoustic neuroma surgery.
