The James H. Quillen VA Medical Center ("Mountain Home")  is now accepting applications for two Audiology Externships for the 2023-2024 year. The positions are full-time, not-to-exceed 12 months (2080 hours), and are open to Au.D. candidates in their final year of their training programs. At least one of the positions will be funded by the Office of Academic Affiliations, and we strive to fund as many positions as possible. 

Located in beautiful northeast Tennessee (Johnson City), the James H. Quillen VAMC consists of 240-acres including over 50 buildings, a beautiful pond,  and a National Cemetery.  The medical center is a teaching hospital providing a full range of patient care services with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research. East Tennessee State University (ETSU) is located across the street from the VAMC and the latest in medical technology enhances the James H. Quillen's VAMC's reputation as a true tertiary care center. 

The James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Audiology Clinic is made up of 14 audiologists, 5 speech-language pathologists and 3 hearing health technicians. Several clinicians teach Audiology courses at ETSU and there is a large number of clinicians who received their clinical training with the VA. Our clinical services include hearing evaluations, hearing aid fitting and orientation, hearing aid follow-up/troubleshooting, aural rehabilitation, cochlear implant candidacy evaluations and mapping, bone anchored hearing systems, auditory evoked potentials, tinnitus assessment and treatment, vestibular assessment and management and tele-audiology. The externship may also allow for an opportunity to work in the Mountain Home Hearing and Balance Research Program on research studies as well as interdisciplinary training opportunities throughout the hospital.
