Kennedy Krieger Institute is an internationally recognized institution dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with disorders of the brain, spinal cord, and musculoskeletal system through: patient care, research and professional training, special education, and community initiatives.
The audiology department evaluates, diagnoses, and treats hearing loss, mainly for the pediatric population. The majority of evaluations are conducted in the outpatient clinic; we also provide services to the KKI inpatient population and to the KKI schools. All supervising audiologists are state licensed and maintain ASHA certification.
We offer, supported by a LEND grant, a 4th year externship, beginning approximately the beginning of June 2023 and extending approximately 11-12 months, dependent upon University requirements. Externs should have a strong desire to commit to working with the pediatric population, particularly those with diagnoses of autism spectrum disorder or other neurodevelopmental disabilities, and to develop leadership skills.
As Kennedy Krieger Institute is a LEND (Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities) program, in addition to clinical training, the LEND trainee will participate in weekly interdisciplinary seminars, attend EHDI and AUCD meetings, participate in a research project, and may be involved with community outreach activities.
A stipend may be offered dependent upon LEND grant/department funding. KKI is active in EDI activities.
Applicants should be students in good standing in an accredited, university-based AuD program with intent to complete all university-based classwork (e.g., 3rd year) prior to beginning the externship. In order to be eligible for the LEND stipend, the trainee must be a U.S. citizen.
Externs accepted for the position will be asked to provide proof of medical insurance and will need to provide proof of vaccinations (including Covid) and TB testing (or undergo testing to verify status) and receive any needed vaccinations/TB test and an annual influenza vaccine.
