The Audiology Externship Program at Hearing Doctors of New Jersey provides fourth-year audiology students an opportunity to participate in delivering state-of-the-art diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology care to pediatric and adult patients.
Students will work alongside doctors of audiology, all of whom have earned a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), to provide the following services:
- Complete Audiological Evaluations (CAEs)
- Otoacoustic Emission testing
- Immittance testing
- Management and treatment of hearing loss and tinnitus
- Fitting, dispensing, and management of technology, including:
- Hearing aids and assistive technology
- Low gain amplification
- Central auditory processing evaluations
- Tinnitus evaluations and therapy services
- Custom earmolds, including:
- Swim plugs
- Sleep plugs
- Hearing protection
- Musician’s plugs
- Cerumen removal
- Counsel and educate patients and their families on hearing loss
Marketing and Educational Opportunities

This position is only for those who are currently enrolled in an accredited Doctor of Audiology program. Please note stipends are available for audiology externs.

- Letter of intent expressing the applicant’s reason for interest in the Hearing Doctors of New Jersey externship, goals for this placement, professional interests, and a short description of any capstone project in progress or completed.
- Current resume/CV detailing the applicant’s education and employment history, audiology internship history, and any special courses or trainings relevant to this audiology placement.
- A minimum of (2) letters of recommendation, three (3) preferred, representing the applicant’s experience both in the classroom and at external placement locations.
Only completed applications received by the application deadline will be reviewed. Strong applicants will be invited to interview.
If a placement offer is made, students will have one week to accept or decline the offer. An affiliation contract between Hearing Doctors of New Jersey and the student’s university must be established prior to placement.
