The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at Western University invites applications for a full-time probationary (tenure-track) position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) with academic responsibilities in research, teaching and service. The anticipated start date will be July 1, 2023, or as negotiated. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
We are seeking an energetic and dynamic candidate who will be able to contribute substantially to the teaching, research and service efforts of the School in the field of audiology, with expertise in hearing disorders and intervention including audiological measurement, management, and/or aural rehabilitation. The successful candidate will also have a demonstrated capacity to contribute substantively to an inclusive and diverse academic community.
The successful candidate will hold a PhD in audiology or a related field. The successful candidate will have demonstrated 1) a track record of excellence in audiology research including but not limited to external funding, peer reviewed publications, and national/international exposure through conference presentation, as appropriate for their stage of career; 2) enthusiasm for quality and innovative educational and supervisory practices. Preference will be given to candidates whose research and scholarship are aligned with existing research strengths identified in the Faculty of Health Sciences Strategic Research Planand the School of CSD Strategic Plan. The selected candidate will be expected to establish and maintain an externally funded research program, teach in the School of CSD, and supervise research-based graduate students in the FHS graduate programs.
The School of CSD is an international leader in the professions of audiology and speech-language pathology, offering Masters of Clinical Science degrees in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology and participating in the Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (HRS) Graduate Program. The HRS Program was the first in Canada to host a combined clinical- research degree (i.e., MClSc-PhD) in Speech and Language Sciences and in Hearing Sciences. The School maintains the research-oriented H.A. Leeper Speech and Hearing Clinic, which includes the provincially-funded tykeTALK and Infant Hearing Programs. Within audiology, current specialized clinical services include infant assessment and assistive device fitting, pediatric amplification, aural rehabilitation, and geriatrics. Within speech-language pathology, the clinic currently provides specializations in preschool speech and language, speech and language disorders in school-age children, and adult and adolescent voice, fluency and acquired neurogenic communication disorders. The School’s faculty members are active and productive researchers, engaged in both theoretical and clinical work. The School and the Faculty are committed to developing new as well as expanding existing partnerships with local, regional, national and international interdisciplinary colleagues. We are also actively engaged in the process of embedding a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusivity in our School.
The successful candidate will have opportunities to develop collaborative relationships with current CSD faculty conducting research in related areas (e.g., PRECISe [Practice-Based Research Collaborative in Speech-Language Pathology], a FHS Research Group) as well as a number of researchers in other Faculties and programs at Western including the internationally acclaimed National Centre for Audiology, the Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging (Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging), and the Brain and Mind Institute, among others.

PhD or equivalent in audiology or a related field
Eligibility for licensure with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario preferred
Demonstrated potential to establish an independent funded research program in communication disorders
Demonstrated excellence in and ability to contribute to graduate level teaching in communication disorders
