Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:
We expect students to be capable of basic testing. However, we realize that students will arrive with a variety of clinical experiences. Incoming externs will work closely with their precepting audiologist to accurately evaluate their comfort levels and construct a plan for the development of appropriate skills.
Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
UPMC externs will be provided with experiences that will allow them to develop skills across the scope of audiologic practice. While each extern is expected to develop a certain set of basic skills, externship experiences are tailored for each individual student based on their interests and preferences. Externs will discuss these expectations in detail with their precepting audiologist.
