Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship: | • Taking a case history • Behavioral audiometry with adults and older children • Acoustic admittance testing, including tympanometry and acoustic reflexes • Basic hearing aid skills • Basic report writing |
Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship: | • Behavioral audiometry with young children, older children, adults, and adults with cognitive impairment. • Hearing aids: includes selection, fitting, rehabilitative and device follow-u • Cochlear implants: includes exposure to evaluations, programming, rehabilitative and device follow-up • Osseointegrated implants: includes exposure to evaluations, programming, rehabilitative and device follow-up • Vestibular: includes exposure to evaluations with interpretation and report writing. • Patient counseling re: diagnostic test results, recommendations, rehabilitation, and referrals for additional services • Collaborative approach to audiological care including with physicians, speech-pathology, community audiologists, physical therapy, and educational team. • Clear and concise report writing |
