Travel to satellite centers required? | Yes UR Medicine Audiology has 7 offices. The main site is located at Clinton Woods (outpatient facility) and houses both ENT and Audiology. There is also an office located in the hospital proper at 601 Elmwood Ave, Rochester NY 14642 and at Highland Hospital. There is a Pediatric Audiology/ENT office near Strong Memorial Hospital. The distance between locations is less than 3 miles. Each extern spend equal amounts of time between the pediatric office and our main outpatient office. Some time will also be spent at the Hospital participating in testing infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care unit. |

Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship: | -Basic knowledge and considerable experience with pure-tone audiometric testing for adults and children to include masking when appropriate-Basic knowledge and considerable experience with Speech Audiometry testing to include masking when appropriate-Basic knowledge of Hearing Aids and hearing aid evaluations and fittings using Noah and manufacturer software -Basic knowledge with both Otoacoustic Emission and Auditory Brainstem Response testing procedures |
Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship: | -Ability to perform comprehensive diagnostic audiologic evaluations for both pediatric and adult populations-Ability to perform newborn hearing screenings (OAE and ABR)-Ability to perform hearing aid evaluations, fittings, and appropriate follow-up care.-Perform in-house hearing aid repairs as appropriate-Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the cochlear implant evaluation and mapping process.-Perform and interpret central auditory processing testing |
