Travel to satellite centers required? | Yes We have three outpatient centers that are within a 21 mile radius from our downtown Salt Lake City hospital campus. Externs will rotate through these centers, but will not be required to travel to more than 2 sites in a given week. |

Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship: | •A passion for and dedication to pediatric audiology, as evidenced by seeking opportunities for pediatric clinical experience and/or coursework. •Clinical exposure/experience with pediatric diagnostic testing (including VRA, CPA, and ABR testing) and pediatric amplification (hearing aids, osseointegrated devices, and cochlear implants). •Familiarity with available amplification manufacturers and products. •Proficiency with conventional audiometry. •Professionalism and time management. |
Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship: | •Proficiency in pediatric diagnostic testing including VRA, CPA, conventional audiometry, and ABR testing. •Proficiency in management of amplification, including but not limited to candidacy, fitting and orientation, verification, and troubleshooting. •Understanding of pediatric audiology within the inpatient setting. •Complete reports in an accurate and timely manner. •Understanding of interdisciplinary communication between providers. •Understand and execute appropriate referrals. |

Research opportunities? | Yes Yes; PCH is a teaching hospital for the University of Utah and we work closely with MDs, medical students, and other graduate programs on their research projects. Externs have the opportunity to participate in any research projects they are interested in as they arise. Additionally, externs will complete quarterly literature reviews and present findings at staff meetings. |
