We are seeking an enthusiastic, friendly, engaging, and passionate Au.D. extern, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills for our clinic. Our clinic a busy, state of the art private practice audiology clinic in the heart of the Silicon Valley that offers comprehensive audiologic evaluation, adult hearing aid consultation and rehabilitation, tinnitus evaluation and management, sound sensitivity disorder evaluation and management (hyperacusis and misophonia), pediatric auditory processing disorder evaluation and therapy, cerumen removal and opportunity to learn how to run a private practice audiology clinic. We are seeking strong candidates who wish to have a well-rounded Au.D. externship experience and have some fun along the way. Silicon Valley Hearing is a clinical, hands-on educational program to satisfy the one-year, offsite, clinical externship coursework requirement for the Au.D. degree program. Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:
Should have mastered basic audiometry and masking. Most of the students will gain knowledge and proficiency in all areas of audiology, even if they have not had exposure before their placement with our clinic.
Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
In addition to improving skills for comprehensive audiologic evaluations, the Au.D. extern will learn the following additional skills:
1. Perform tinnitus, hyperacusis, and misophonia evaluations and management, using the tinnitus retraining therapy and progressive tinnitus management approaches.
2. Master a full communications needs assessment (including administration of the Acceptable Noise level test, QSIN, BKB-SIN, and other hearing/listening questionnaires) to be able recommend options to patients. Learn how to fit hearing aids from a variety of manufacturers.
3. Be able to discuss various hearing aid technology as it applies to the patients' listening needs and daily living needs.
4. Learn pediatric auditory processing evaluations and provide therapy tools and intervention.
5. Learn and master cerumen removal.
