ENT group practice

The UPMC Bayfront ENT office (located in Erie, PA) offers one Au.D. externship position each year. Au.D. externs have many responsibilities and opportunities in this busy ENT clinic and will be exposed to a variety of clinical experiences (e.g., diagnostic testing, hearing aid services, videonystagmography). Externs are expected to participate in a variety of learning activities and grow in clinical independence throughout the year.

All application materials must be submitted to this qualtrics survey by 5pm (EST) on Friday, October 13, 2023. Interviews will be ongoing. Applicants may choose to come in person (in Erie, PA) or interview virtually (on Zoom).

Required items:

1 letter of introduction/recommendation from the faculty coordinator of externships
2 additional letters of recommendation from academic or clinical supervisors
1 letter of interest from the student
1 vita from the student applicant

Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:

We expect students to be capable of basic testing. However, we realize that students will arrive with a variety of clinical experiences. Incoming externs will work closely with their precepting audiologist to accurately evaluate their comfort levels and construct a plan for the development of appropriate skills.

Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:

UPMC externs will be provided with experiences that will allow them to develop skills across the scope of audiologic practice in an ENT setting. While each extern is expected to develop a certain set of basic skills, externship experiences are tailored for each individual student based on their interests and preferences. Externs will discuss these expectations in detail with their precepting audiologist.
