The AuD Program (part of the Department of Communication Disorders) at Cal State LA seeks to add another full-time, tenure track, Assistant Professor faculty position in Audiology to our current thriving, successful, and collegial group of faculty. Cal State LA is one of four California State University campuses that offer an autonomous AuD degree. The Cal State LA AuD Program is located off the main campus in the adjacent city of Alhambra CA at the Alhambra (1000 S. Fremont Avenue, Alhambra CA) in a newly built-out facility that includes the Hearing & Balance Center with state-of-the-art equipment, classroom teaching spaces, and faculty offices. Although this is a nine-month tenure-track position, the AuD Program is a year-round program, so there are multiple opportunities for summer employment.
The successful candidate for this position will be expected to teach courses in areas of expertise in consultation with the Department Chair and to supervise audiology doctoral investigative projects. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in clinical education in the Cal State LA Hearing & Balance Center.
Starting Date: August 2024
Minimum Qualifications:
1) An earned doctorate (Ph.D., AuD., or equivalent) from an accredited institution in audiology, hearing and speech science, or closely related field is required; however, applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (8/19/2024).
2) Evidence of expertise in one or more of the following areas: Amplification and Audiologic Rehabilitation; Business and Professional Issues in Audiology; Diagnostic Audiology; Audiology Across the Lifespan; or other relevant area represented in the Cal State LA Doctor of Audiology (AuD) curriculum.
3) Possession of, or immediate eligibility to attain and hold, California licensure both in audiology and hearing aid dispensing.
4) Evidence of scholarly achievement given career stage (for example, academic or professional presentations, publications in refereed journals, publication of textbooks) in Audiology or closely related area; and
5) Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students in a multicultural/multiethnic urban campus environment with a substantial population of first-generation students.
Preferred Qualifications:
1) Dual earned doctorate (AuD and Ph.D. or equivalent) from an accredited institution in audiology, hearing and speech science, or closely related field.
2) Evidence of university teaching experience.
3) Expertise in the use of contemporary platforms for instructional technology.
4) Evidence of experience in: academic administration, curriculum management, and program development applicable to a university setting.
5) Possession, nearing completion, or eligibility for national certification in Audiology (either American Board of Audiology Certified or CCC-A) and
6) Possession of other related professional certifications.

The Doctor of Audiology program was awarded full accreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Audiology Education (ACAE) in June 2022 and will graduate its third cohort of Doctors of Audiology in May 2024. The AuD Program currently enrolls 45 students across four years of the program.
The AuD Program is located off-campus in a dedicated and newly renovated 12,000 sq ft space in the adjacent city of Alhambra, CA. It is a completely modern and unrivaled facility with four sound suites, an extensive array of hearing and balance assessment equipment, a classroom, conference room, and faculty offices.
