Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship: | •Otoscopy •Tympanometry •Distortion product otoacoustic emission (DPOAE) testing •Comprehensive audiological evaluations with basic masking •Basic diagnostic interpretation abilities •Earmold impressions •Real ear verification (set up) •Some hearing aid troubleshooting (any manufacturer) |
Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship: | •Proficiency in all the above skills as well as: •Comprehensive audiological evaluations, diagnostic interpretation, and effective counseling for more complicated hearing losses •Hearing aid consultations, fittings, verification, troubleshooting, repairs, follow-ups •Tinnitus management •Confidence working with patients of all ages •Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment •Administrative skills |
