Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship: | Completion of foundational coursework and clinical rotations in audiology. Strong understanding of audiological assessment techniques and intervention strategies. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with students, families, and school personnel. Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team. Familiarity with educational laws and regulations related to students with disabilities (e.g., IDEA, ADA, Section 504). Enthusiasm for working in an educational setting and supporting diverse student populations. |
Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship: | To develop advanced clinical skills in the assessment and management of hearing loss within an educational context. To understand and apply best practices in educational audiology, including fitting and troubleshooting hearing aids and assistive listening devices. To contribute to the development and implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) and 504 plans for students with hearing impairments. To gain experience in collaborating with educators, parents, and multidisciplinary teams to promote student success. |
