The American Institute of Balance providers & Dr. Gans have had 55 audiology externs to date. Our highly specialized practice focuses on vestibular and balance disorders with a strong medical referral base and interdisciplinary approach. AIB provides a full range of diagnostic vestibular assessments, including but not limited to: Posturography, Rotary Chair, Active Head Rotation, VNG, VEMP, vHIT, Dynamic Visual Acuity, etc. Traditional diagnostic audiology, including hearing assessment and hearing aid dispensing is also provided.
AIB's multidisciplinary staff, which includes audiologists, ENTs and Physical Therapists, fosters opportunities for students to observe and participate in the entire continuum of patient care from diagnosis through treatment. AIB providers have performed over 17,000 BPPV canalith repositioning maneuvers since 1994. Additionally, AIB is a leader in the education of allied-healthcare professionals pursuing certification and training in the diagnosis and management of dizziness and balance disorders (ex. Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy, etc). As such, our private practice allows students to also gain valuable insight and experience in practice management, business development, and education.
The ideal AIB extern would embody a holistic healthcare approach and mentality to patient care, leadership skills, academic aspirations, interest in business development, public speaking engagements (10-100 people), and have a goal to produce a positive and lasting impact on the field of audiology as a medical-modeled allied-healthcare profession.
All of AIB providers are AAA members, hold ASHA CCCs and work with the externs to provide professional and practice mentorship. Post-extern year career opportunities may also be available.
