A Unique Externship Opportunity in the Desert Southwest
The audiology practice Advanced Hearing Care (AHC) a career-minded audiology externs for the May, 2025-May, 2026 (start date is flexible) school year.
AHC is the premiere audiology practice of Southern New Mexico, now 24 years strong, and is established in two neighboring cities: Alamogordo and Ruidoso. We have been voted and awarded "Best of the Best" for multiple consecutive years by the local populations. AHC adopts the latest research findings into our hearing care and uses state-of-the-art equipment and hearing devices. Successful applicants will be engaged at the cutting-edge of private practice audiology. Over the last decade, we have trained twenty-five 4th year externs.
CAREER OPPORTUNITY:
The audiology extern will be responsible for administering diagnostic audiologic tests; a full-range of vestibular testing; ABR, ECoG and VEMP testing; hearing aid dispensing (i.e., testing, fitting, and selection), cochlear implants and hearing rehabilitation service to all populations. The audiologist extern may provide other standard tests as needed. S/he will counsel and educate patients regarding test results and will articulately review the options that best meet their hearing care needs. The audiologist extern will also engage in educating patients, developing patients for life, reviewing pricing options, and dispensing hearing aids as a part of the patient education process.
LOCATION DESCRIPTIONS:
Nestled in the fertile Mesilla Valley between the majestic Organ Mountains and the meandering Rio Grande, Las Cruces, New Mexico is quickly becoming a popular southwestern destination. The city of Las Cruces has received several awards including rankings from Money magazine as one of the “best college towns to retire” and from AARP as one of their “dream towns” to retire. Las Cruces has also been ranked by Forbes as one of the best small metro areas for business and careers. The City of Alamogordo, just outside White Sands National Park, rests at the foot of the beautiful Sacramento Mountains, which rise 4500 ft right from the edge of the city. The mountain resort town of Ruidoso is located in the alpine foothills of the famous 12,000 ft Sierra Blanca (named for it's snowy cap). Attractions include the racetrack at Ruidoso Downs and the ski slopes known as Ski Apache. The Alamogordo climate is ideal, providing superb year-round sunny weather (350 days per year) and moderate “spring and fall” temperatures for 10 months out of the year. Our location provides access to cities such as Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Tucson, El Paso, and historically rich locations such as Old Mesilla, Cloudcroft, and the Gila National Forest. We abound with world-class Mexican food!
