Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship: | Applicants can expect a well-rounded placement, offering experience with primarily pediatric patients and some diagnostic adult patients. Full supervision with increasing independence. This 4th year position all pediatrics, including: oDiagnostic assessment of children from infancy through the teen years -Natural sleep and sedated ABRs -Two-tester behavioral hearing assessment for children of all ages -In-patient coverage at the main UNC hospital campus -Support CI candidacy evaluations for patients < 2 years in conjunction with colleagues at the Children's Cochlear Implant Center at UNC (note, this clinic is separate from the CCIC at UNC) oHearing aid selection, fitting, verification, and follow up (air- and bone-conduction devices) oNewborn hearing screenings in the UNC NICU (our team also provides oversight for newborn hearing screening in the well-baby nursery) oParticipate in regular audiology staff meetings, in service/training opportunities, and clinical research (based on the applicants' interests) oPartner with North Carolina state EHDI team to combat loss to follow up/documentation |
