Nebraska-Western Iowa VA (NWI-VA) is proud to announce openings for two funded 4th Year Audiology Externships. NWI-VA has one main campus hospital, a new suburban-Omaha clinic with Audiology services, and six Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC). The Omaha campus recently expanded with a new state of the art ancillary care and surgery clinic and a rehabilitation services clinic. Our NWI-VA Audiology team is staffed with 15 audiologists and 4 Health Technicians across 3 campuses. The NWI-VA Audiology team offers two paid challenging and comprehensive externships annually. One position serves at the Omaha main campus, and one is at the Lincoln, Nebraska CBOC. The externships are 12-month full-time (2080 hours) positions with an anticipated start date in June of 2026.
Application packages are submitted to Omaha and Lincoln sites separately. NWI-VA traineeships are funded by the Office of Academic Affiliations (OAA). Although we anticipate funding by OAA for these positions for future academic years, this is at the discretion of OAA, pending budget approval. Students must be a U.S. Citizen to apply.

Nebraska Western Iowa Health Care System (NWIHCS) has two 4th year Audiology Extern positions (Omaha and Lincoln campuses). Omaha VA Medical Center is a multi-site clinic comprised of one main hospital and 6 community based outpatient clinics (CBOC). The main hospital is located in Omaha and NWI also has direct audiology services in Lincoln and Grand Island, as well as telemedicine services at 4 CBOCs. The Audiology program at the Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System Healthcare system in Omaha includes eight audiologists and two health technicians. Audiology services provided include general diagnostics, amplification selection and fitting, progressive tinnitus management, TeleAudiology, comprehensive VNG (VEMP and vHIT), cochlear implant mappings and intraoperative monitoring, central auditory processing evaluations, and electrophysiological testing. The Lincoln Campus is a newly constructed facility that has five Audiologists and one health technician. Services are similar to Omaha with the exception of Vestibular and Cochlear Implant surgical monitoring.
