As an extern, you will work alongside experienced audiologists in a patient-centered hearing care environment, gaining exposure to:
• Comprehensive hearing aid evaluations
• Hearing aid fittings and follow-up care
• Real-ear measurements and verification best practices
• Cochlear implant and bone conduction technology exposure (location dependent)
• Counseling and communication strategies
• Tinnitus management (location dependent)
• Adult patient care

Students are not expected to be fully independent clinicians; rather, they should demonstrate a willingness to learn, accept feedback, and continue developing their clinical skills under the guidance of experienced preceptors. | | Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship: | By the completion of the externship, students will be expected to demonstrate increasing independence and competency in diagnostic audiology, hearing aid services, patient counseling, clinical documentation, and professional communication. Externs will work toward developing the clinical judgment, technical skills, and confidence necessary for a successful transition to independent practice as an audiologist.
