Alaska Audiology is seeking a motivated and compassionate fourth-year Audiology Extern to join our dynamic and patient-focused team for the 2026–2027 externship year. Our practice offers a unique blend of professional excellence and adventurous living in the heart of Anchorage, Alaska, serving a diverse patient population across urban and remote communities.
About Us:
Alaska Audiology is a 30+ year established private practice committed to improving lives through exceptional hearing healthcare. Our team of experienced audiologists provides personalized, evidence-based care using the latest diagnostic and treatment technologies.
We offer a wide range of services, including:
Diagnostic audiologic evaluations for elementary-age through geriatrics
Hearing aid fittings and follow-up care with leading manufacturers
Tinnitus counseling
Auditory processing disorder (APD) evaluations
Cerumen management
Custom hearing protection and musician’s monitors
Community outreach and education, including rural telehealth and mobile clinics
Externship Experience:
Externs at Alaska Audiology will gain diverse clinical experience and gradually build independence under the supervision of dedicated audiologists who are passionate about teaching and mentorship.
Our externship offers:
Broad diagnostic and rehabilitative training
Opportunities to work with underserved and remote populations
Exposure to practice management and private practice operations
Experience with APD populations
Involvement in tele-audiology and mobile outreach clinics
Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in an accredited Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) program
Completion of all academic and clinical prerequisites prior to externship
Excellent interpersonal, report writing, and communication skills
A sense of adventure and cultural humility are a plus!
Compensation:
A stipend is available for the 2027–2028 externship year.

Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:
-Take a case history -Strong report writing skills -Competently perform all diagnostic evaluations -Critically think about each case presented -Familiarity with all major hearing aid manufacturers -Working knowledge for tinnitus education and management -Familiarity with auditory processing disorders
Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
-Be proficient in report writing and electronic medical record keeping -Independently perform all diagnostic evaluations -Proficient in counseling, selection, and fitting of hearing aids -Mastery of audiologic assessment and intervention -Mastery with adult and pediatric populations -Mastery of independent clinical decision-making and appropriate management
