The Department of Audiology at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, a specialty, Harvard teaching hospital, is now accepting applications for Au.D. externship training. Externs will provide comprehensive audiological assessment and rehabilitation services to patients of all ages at the Mass Eye and Ear main hospital in Boston, MA. Externs are encouraged to take advantage of the many continuing education opportunities available through the various clinical departments and research laboratories.
We seek highly motivated individuals who will participate fully in this busy and challenging, but exceptional training environment. Positions are full-time, 12 months, and will begin June 2026. Mass Eye and Ear will be following the ACEN Externship Application timeline as follows:

Mass Eye and Ear expect the extern to learn/demonstrate certain skills during their clinical externship. This includes competence in and informed performance of the following:
Behavioral audiometry with young children
Hearing aid selection, fitting, rehabilitative, and device follow-up; includes exposure to various assistive and implantable devices
Newborn hearing screening
Assessment of various electrophysiologic responses, including basic suprathreshold auditory evoked response, and clinical VEMP; will have some exposure to threshold evaluation using auditory evoked response
Cochlear implant; includes exposure to evaluations, programming, rehabilitative and device follow-up
Exposure to intraoperative monitoring of selected neural responses
Patient counseling re: diagnostic test results, recommendations, rehabilitation, and referrals for additional services
Clear and concise report writing
Clinical opportunities that will be given to the extern:

Continuing education opportunities will be available in the form of numerous audiology-, otolaryngology- and research lab-sponsored clinical and research seminars throughout the year. Travel to satellite centers may occur but the primary location is the main campus.
