Required Education:
Doctorate
The Audiologist plays a key role in advancing the organization’s mission to provide accessible, high-quality hearing healthcare to individuals and families regardless of income, background, or insurance status. This position delivers comprehensive audiological evaluations, interventions, and education while contributing to community outreach initiatives and patient advocacy efforts. The Audiologist ensures compassionate, culturally responsive care and supports programs that reduce barriers to hearing health.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Services
Provide full-scope audiological evaluations, including diagnostic testing and hearing screenings for individuals of all ages.
Fit and program hearing aids and assistive listening devices.
Ensure proper follow-up care, troubleshooting, and device maintenance.
Make appropriate referrals to medical or educational providers and help patients navigate external resources.
Maintain thorough and accurate patient records in accordance with CHC-FL, HIPAA, and state requirements.
Mission-Driven Patient Care
Deliver patient-centered care rooted in empathy, cultural humility, and equity.
Provide counseling on financial assistance options or community resources when needed.
Advocate for patients facing socioeconomic or systemic barriers to hearing healthcare.
Community Outreach & Education
Participate in or lead community hearing screenings, health fairs, and outreach events.
Educate patients and families on hearing loss, communication strategies, and available support services.
Provide presentations or workshops to schools, community groups, and partner agencies.
Support efforts to increase hearing health awareness across underserved populations.
Program Support & Collaboration
Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams including internal social service and education departments and external partners.
Assist in developing or improving programs such as early intervention and senior services, hearing aid assistance initiatives, or grant-funded projects.
Contribute to data collection and reporting required for grants, donors, or program evaluation.
Qualifications
Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) required.
Current state licensure as an Audiologist.
Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) preferred.
Experience in nonprofit, community health, or underserved populations strongly preferred.
Bilingual or multilingual skills valued but not required.
Valid Florida driver’s license and ability to travel to various locations as required.
Center for Hearing and Communication (CHC) is the oldest and largest nonprofit providing comprehensive hearing rehabilitation and human service programs for people with hearing loss for more than 110 years. CHC has its headquarters in New York City with only one other facility in Fort Lauderdale, Florida operating for the past 44 years. The Florida office is seeking an immediate part time or contracted audiologist to assist with with our new community-based hearing screenings for preschoolers and our expanding in house audiology services for all ages.
